Obverse description The Portuguese royal shield occupies the central field, displaying the traditional quintas arrangement of five escutcheons charged with bezants, enclosed within a decorative border. A small annulet (washer) is positioned to each side of the shield, serving as mint marks identifying the Porto mint. The circumscribed legend in Latin reads around the periphery of the coin.
