| Obverse description | Central field displays a large royal crown in high relief, beneath which appears the denomination mark XXX in bold roman numerals, referencing the 30-réis fractional basis. The legend JOSEPHUS I D G P ET ALG REX encircles the design, identifying King José I of Portugal and the Algarves by the Grace of God, separated by ornamental stops.
