Obverse description Central field bears a three-line Persian inscription in nasta'liq script naming the sovereign, enclosed within a raised oval cartouche. The legend reads 'Sultan Mohammad Ali Shah Qajar' and 'Tehran', arranged in stylised calligraphic bands. The cartouche is framed by a composite wreath composed of olive branches to the left and oak branches to the right, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. A fine beaded border runs along the inner rim, with the edge of the coin showing reeding characteristic of milled coinage of the Tehran Mint.

Reverse description Central device depicts the imperial Lion and Sun emblem of Qajar Iran: a rampant lion facing dexter, holding a sword in its right forepaw, with a radiant rising sun issuing from behind its back. The date in the Islamic lunar calendar (AH 1324) appears between the lion's legs. The entire device is enclosed within a wreath of olive and oak leaves, surmounted by a royal crown at the apex where the wreath branches meet. The denomination inscription 'پنجهزار' (five thousand dinars, equivalent to one-half toman) appears within the wreath, and a beaded inner border frames the design.
