Obverse description The entire field is occupied by a bold, multi-line nastaliq inscription in high relief, naming the issuing sovereign: 'السّلطان ابن السّلطان فتحعلی شاه قاجار' (The Sultan, Son of the Sultan, Fath Ali Shah Qajar). The calligraphy is rendered in the flowing, overlapping nastaliq style characteristic of Qajar coinage, with individual letter strokes rising prominently from the recessed field. A continuous inner border of raised dots encircles the inscribed field, itself bounded by the irregular, slightly ragged rim typical of hammered gold coinage of the period.
