Reverse description Saint Rupert of Salzburg, the patron saint of the city, is depicted seated facing forward in full pontifical vestments including a mitre and flowing robes. In his right hand he holds a crozier and in his left he carries a salt barrel, his traditional attribute. The figure is rendered in a bold, late Renaissance style with fine drapery detail. A rope-twist border frames the design, with the Latin legend encircling the field: SANC RVDBERTVS EPVS SALZBVRG.
