Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Prince-Bishop Joseph Christian of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein occupying the central field of the octagonal flan, depicted in ecclesiastical vestments with a cross pectoral and decorative order visible at the breast. The portrait is rendered in high relief in a late Baroque neoclassical style, with the subject's hair dressed in the powdered style fashionable in the late 18th century. The encircling Latin legend reads IOSEPH · D·G · PRIN · AB HOHENLOHE WALD · BART · K, interrupted at the base by a small mintmaster's initial R below the truncation. A beaded inner border follows the octagonal outline of the klippe.
