| Reverse description | Detailed bird's-eye panoramic view of Aschaffenburg castle occupying the full field, rendered in fine engraved perspective with multiple towers, walls, gatehouses, and surrounding structures faithfully depicted. A circular Latin legend surrounds the scene, incorporating the Roman numeral date ANNO MDCXIIII (1614) and commemorative inscriptions referencing the auspicious occasion of the castle's construction or dedication. The composition reflects the celebratory character of the issue, combining heraldic precision with topographical realism typical of early seventeenth-century German commemorative coinage. |

John Schweickhardt of Kronberg served as Archbishop-Elector of Mainz from 1604 until his death in 1626, presiding over the electorate in the years immediately preceding the Thirty Years' War. His tenure coincided with intense confessional tensions across the Holy Roman Empire, and Mainz — as one of the three ecclesiastical electors — sat at the center of those pressures. The Aschaffenburg castle issues of his reign represent a distinct minting episode, struck at his favored residence rather than the primary Mainz mint.
Walther 227 is the standard attribution for this half thaler type within the Kronberg series. The Pr.Alex 335 cross-reference confirms the piece within the broader princely coinage corpus of the period.
