Reverse description The reverse depicts a fully armored equestrian figure of Emperor Rudolf II mounted on a rearing horse to the right, thrusting a lance downward at a prostrate dragon or beast beneath the horse's hooves, rendered in the dynamic hammered style typical of late sixteenth-century German coinage. The composition fills the central field within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circumferential legend in Latin reads: RVDOLPHVS. II. D. G. ROM. IMPE. SEM. A. P. E. D., invoking the Emperor's full titulature as Holy Roman Emperor, Semper Augustus, and Archduke.
