| Obverse description | Central device features an ornate baroque cartouche bearing the impaled arms of the Archbishopric of Salzburg and Austria in chief, surmounted by the arms of Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun below, all beneath an archiepiscopal galero with pendant tassels. The shield is elaborately mantled in the baroque style characteristic of late 17th-century ecclesiastical coinage. The encircling Latin legend commences at approximately 2 o'clock and identifies the issuing prelate as Archbishop of Salzburg and Legate of the Holy Apostolic See. |

| Reverse description | Standing figures of the two patron saints of Salzburg flank the field: at left, Saint Rupert in episcopal vestments holds a crozier and a salt casket in his left hand, while at right, Saint Virgil in episcopal vestments holds a crozier and displays a model of St. Peter's Abbey, Salzburg. Both saints are rendered in the formal baroque idiom typical of Salzburg ecclesiastical coinage of the period. The surrounding Latin legend, commencing at approximately 12 o'clock, identifies the two saints as the patron saints of Salzburg. |
