Obverse description A rampant lion facing right occupies the central field, holding a sword upright in its right forepaw while its left forepaw rests upon the oval arms of Zürich — a diagonally divided shield with alternating blue and white stripes — positioned to the lower left. The composition is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the lion's mane and the heraldic shield. The encircling legend reads MONETA REIPUBLICÆ TURICENSIS·, distributed around the periphery in Roman capitals. A toothed milled border frames the entire design.
