Obverse description Armored bust of Duke Frederick III facing right, wearing a ruffled lace collar and elaborately draped mantle with decorative horizontal banding, rendered in the portrait style typical of early seventeenth-century German hammered coinage. The hair is shown in short curls framing the face. A beaded inner circle separates the effigy from the surrounding Latin legend, which reads FRIDERICUS III D G DUX S HOLS GOTTORP, distributed around the full circumference of the coin.
