Obverse description Armored half-length bust of Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol facing right, wearing a crown and elaborately decorated plate armor with ruff collar and chain of order visible at the neck. The figure holds a scepter or orb in the right hand, rendered in bold relief characteristic of the Hall Mint's skilled die-cutters. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait. The circular Latin legend reads FERDINAND D G ARCHID AVST (or FERDINANDVS D G ARCHID AVST on some dies), distributed around the bust.
