Additional information

Charles VI spent much of his reign pressing his claim to the Spanish throne — a dynastic ambition that drained Habsburg finances and kept the imperial mints working hard to fund military campaigns across two continents. The Prague mint, one of the oldest in Central Europe, struck silver coinage throughout his reign from Bohemian and Hungarian bullion supplies that were increasingly strained by wartime demand.

By 1718, the Treaty of Passarowitz had just concluded a costly war against the Ottomans, leaving the empire's treasury in a fragile condition that the silver output from Bohemia was expected to help stabilize.
