Additional information

Charles Theodore ruled the Palatinate-Sulzbach line from Mannheim, and by 1765 was already maneuvering through the fractious politics of the Holy Roman Empire while maintaining one of the more culturally ambitious courts in German-speaking Europe. The Konventionstaler standard — established by the Munich Convention of 1753 — imposed a 10-thaler-to-the-Cologne-mark ratio across participating states, and this half-thaler denomination was struck in strict conformity with those terms.

Slg. Memme 2494 and Haas M101 both document this type with minimal die variation noted across the series.
