Obverse description A rampant lion facing right dominates the field, brandishing a raised sword in its right forepaw and supporting with its left forepaw an oval shield bearing the arms of Zürich, rendered with fine hatching to indicate the diagonal bicolor division. The design is set upon a hatched ground within a plain inner border. The circular Latin legend * MONETA * REIPUBLICÆ TIGVRINÆ runs along the periphery, divided by the sword above and a star below, all within a milled border.
