Additional information

Bern operated as a sovereign city-state within the Swiss Confederacy, and its right to strike silver coinage was a point of considerable civic pride — and occasional friction with neighboring cantons over exchange rates. The late 1670s issues coincide with a period of active municipal governance following the Thirty Years' War's long economic disruption across the region.

KM#44 is a two-year type, struck across 1679 and 1680 with no documented change in dies between the years.
