Obverse description The Zürich lion rampant, armed with a sword and holding an orb, stands erect behind the quartered civic shield bearing the diagonal bicolor arms of Zürich. The lion is finely rendered in high relief, with detailed mane and flowing tail. The entire device is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin reads MONETA·NOVA THVRICENSIS, identifying the coin as a new money of Zürich.
