| Obverse description | Bare-headed, bearded bust of Louis II de Montpensier in right profile, wearing an armored cuirass with visible gorget and pauldron detailing, rendered in the Renaissance portraiture style typical of French feudal coinage. The effigy occupies the central field, with fine engraving conveying the Prince's facial features including a trimmed beard and strong jaw. A circular beaded inner border frames the composition. The peripheral Latin legend reads: +LVDO.D.MONTISP.D.DOMBAR, identifying Louis as Duke of Montpensier and Lord of Dombes. |
