| Obverse description | Draped bust of Joan of Albret facing right, wearing a coif and ruffled collar in the Renaissance fashion. The effigy is rendered in fine relief with careful attention to facial detail and period costume. The mint mark P appears in the lower left field below the bust. The circular legend, reading IOANA D G REG NAVAR D B, is separated from the central design by a beaded inner border. The inscription identifies the issuer as Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre by the grace of God and Lady of Béarn. |
