Reverse description The crowned oval shield of France, bearing the three fleurs-de-lis of the French royal arms, flanked on each side by a crowned ermine to the right and a crowned ermine to the left, all set within a beaded inner circle. The heraldic composition reflects the full achievement of the French royal arms as employed under Francis I. A Latin circular legend surrounds the central device in the outer field, punctuated by pellets and decorative stops consistent with hammered silver coinage of this reign.
