Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Charles IV facing right, with long flowing hair and beard, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style. The duke is depicted in contemporary dress with a lace collar visible at the truncation. The legend is disposed around the periphery, separated from the central effigy by a toothed or beaded inner border. The portrait is bold and naturalistic, characteristic of mid-17th-century Lorraine coinage.
