| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke Charles IV facing right, with long flowing hair and beard, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style. The duke is depicted in contemporary dress with a lace collar visible at the truncation. The legend is disposed around the periphery, separated from the central effigy by a toothed or beaded inner border. The portrait is bold and naturalistic, characteristic of mid-17th-century Lorraine coinage. |
