Obverse description Youthful crowned bust of Emperor Charles V facing left, rendered in a medieval hammered style with bold, somewhat crude relief. The sovereign is depicted wearing an elaborate crown with visible decorative elements, the bust truncated at the shoulder. A partial legend in Latin surrounds the effigy along the coin's irregular circumference. The portrait conveys an archaic stylistic character typical of early sixteenth-century Sicilian hammered coinage.
