Additional information

This piece dates to the early years of Chulalongkorn's reign, when the Siamese government was actively experimenting with Western-style coinage as part of a broader modernization push — one driven partly by diplomatic pressure from Britain and France, both encroaching on neighboring territories. Pattern issues from this period were produced in small numbers, often in multiple metals, as the Royal Mint and various European contractors submitted competing proposals. White metal trials were common proof-of-concept strikes, never intended for release.

The reeded edge on this pattern distinguishes it from flat-edge variants known in the series.
