Obverse description Central field dominated by a large quartered heraldic shield, displaying the combined arms of the Bishopric of Utrecht and the House of Burgundy: quarters alternating between diagonal stripes (bendy) and fleurs-de-lis, with a small inescutcheon at fess point bearing a rampant lion. The shield is framed within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential legend, rendered in Gothic uncial characters, reads the mint and episcopal title of David of Burgundy with the date 1494, separated by star-shaped stops. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Low Countries ecclesiastical coinage.
