Obverse description A double-headed eagle displayed with wings spread occupies the central field, facing forward in the imperial tradition. Below the eagle, two tilted heraldic shields bear the arms of East Friesland and Groningen respectively. A divided circular legend in Gothic uncial characters surrounds the design, referencing the County and Senate of Groningen. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval Low German hammered silver coinage.
