Reverse description Central cross with ornamental terminals, flanked by the keys of Groningen — the civic emblem — arranged in the four quarters of the field. A pellet or small ornament appears at the centre of the cross. The surrounding beaded circle encloses the Latin legend SIT NO * DO * BE with the date 1613 and the civic abbreviation S P Q G, referencing the Senate and People of Groningen. The overall design is characteristic of the small billon coinage ('butken') struck by the city in the early Dutch Republic period.
