Obverse description Central field features a double-headed eagle displayed, rendered in a crude hammered style characteristic of late-medieval Frisian municipal coinage. The eagle's two heads are turned outward, with visible plumage indicated by rough die engraving. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading MONETA NOVA BOLSWERDEN, identifying this as new coinage of the city of Bolsward. The overall design is typical of the civic heraldic tradition of the Low Countries in the fifteenth century.

Reverse description Central field displays a floriated or quartered shield bearing a fleur-de-lis or similar civic heraldic device, surrounded by decorative cross-ended arms extending toward the periphery, consistent with the double-cross or long cross type common on Frisian municipal issues. The encircling Latin legend records the date of issue in Roman numerals. The die work is crude and irregular, as expected of hammered provincial coinage of this period. The legend reads ANNO DOMINI MCCC LXXIIII, denoting the year of the Lord 1474.
