Obverse description A three-line Latin inscription occupying the central field, reading TRA / AB HI / OBBES, with small stars serving as word separators between abbreviated elements of the siege legend. The date 1579 appears in the exergue, flanked by a star at center, with the Maastricht civic arms dividing the numerals. The entire device is rendered in a crude, utilitarian fashion consistent with emergency wartime production, with irregular flan edges characteristic of hastily struck siege coinage.
