| Additional information |
South Africa struck half sovereigns at Pretoria from 1923 through 1926 under a minting agreement that allowed the dominion to produce British-standard gold coinage from locally refined Witwatersrand gold. The series was cut short not by any political rupture but by simple economics — declining gold output and the shift toward the newly established South African pound made continued production of imperial denominations redundant.
The 1925 date is notably scarcer than the flanking years. Collectors working Hern's S326–328 sequence regularly find the run incomplete for that reason.
