Additional information

Alderney, though technically a dependency of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, issues coins under its own name — a quirk that has made it a prolific vehicle for commemorative gold since the 1990s. This piece marks the centenary of Elizabeth II's birth in 1926, issued under Charles III, whose own effigy now appears on coinage that simultaneously honors his mother.

The half sovereign specification traces directly to the 1817 Great Recoinage under Lord Liverpool, which standardized the format still in use today.
