Obverse description Central field occupied by the quartered shield of Lorraine, displaying the characteristic diagonal band of Anjou over the cross of Jerusalem, with a sword superimposed vertically across the escutcheon. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads the duke's title, interrupted by pellet stops, struck in a characteristic hammered style with irregular flan edges.
