Obverse description Crowned rectangular heraldic shield occupying the central field, bearing the Norwegian lion rampant crowned and holding a halberd, facing left, against a diaper background of vertical lines. The royal cipher of Carl XV — the conjoined letters CL= and XV — is inscribed to either side of the shield, serving as the principal legend. The entire design is enclosed by a raised beaded border at the rim.

Reverse description Central solid circle with a horizontally lined background, bearing the denomination numeral and fraction in the upper field above the circle. The legend SKILLING flanked by rosette stops appears around the circle, forming the value inscription. Below the circle, the date 1872 is divided by the Kongsberg Mint's hammer-and-pick mintmark, presented as 18 ⚒ 72. The design is framed by a raised beaded border at the rim.
