Obverse description Small pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Anastasius I facing right, rendered in a somewhat barbaric imitative style characteristic of Gepid coinage. The effigy is set within a beaded border and surrounded by a Latin imperial legend. The engraving reflects the Gepid craftsmen's adaptation of late Roman imperial iconography, with simplified facial features and provincial execution.
