Obverse description Central field features the heraldic arms of Cardinal Carlo Rezzonico, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, displayed on a baroque cartouche surmounted by the umbraculum (pavilion) and flanked by the crossed keys of Saint Peter with their cords and tassels. The shield is quartered, displaying the characteristic Rezzonico family bearings. The circumferential Latin legend, interrupted by a central dot divider, reads SEDE • VACAN - TE • MDCCLXXIV, recording the sede vacante period of 1774. The coin's border is composed of a fine beaded inner ring, consistent with the refined milled coinage of the late Papal States.
