Obverse description Within a pointed trilobe frame set inside a beaded circle, the quartered electoral arms of Saxony are displayed, featuring the distinctive barry with a crancelin over all. The surrounding legend, written in Gothic uncial script, commences with a cross pattee and identifies the ruling dukes by their titles. The heraldic shield is rendered in the flat, stylized manner characteristic of late medieval Saxon die-cutting, with the trilobe cusps framing the device on three sides.
