Obverse description The obverse presents a multi-line Persian legend arranged in horizontal registers across the field, reading: 'Sikka zad bar haft kishwar saya fazl Ilah Hami ud-din Muhammad, Shah Alam, Badshah' (He who has struck the coin over the seven climes, shadow of divine favour, defender of the faith of Muhammad, Shah Alam, Emperor). The inscription is rendered in elegant Naskh calligraphy and occupies the full face of the coin within a finely toothed milled border.
