Obverse description Persian legend in Naskh script arranged across the field, reading 'Sikka Mubarak Badshah Ghazi Shah Alam' (The auspicious coin of the victorious Emperor Shah Alam). The inscription is partially off flan due to the small planchet size relative to the die, a characteristic feature of this Surat Presidency coinage. The field is divided by a bold horizontal line, with the legend distributed above and below. The overall style reflects the late Mughal calligraphic tradition as adapted for East India Company coinage.
