| Reverse description | The reverse displays a finely modelled Irish hare in left-facing profile, alert and crouching upon a plain ground line, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail characteristic of Percy Metcalfe's animal series for the Irish Free State coinage. The Gaelic inscription 'leat reul' arcs around the upper field in two words divided by the hare, reading 'half reul.' The denomination '3d' appears in the lower exergue, with the engraver's initials 'PM' discreetly placed to the right. A continuous beaded border frames the entire design. |
