Reverse description The reverse centers on a radiant Phrygian liberty cap, a classical republican symbol, positioned prominently in the field. Surrounding the central device are the denomination, mint mark, date, assayer's initials, and fineness inscription arranged in a structured legend. The mintmark 'Mo' identifies the Mexico City Mint, while the initials 'JM' denote the assayer responsible for the issue. The fineness is expressed in the traditional Spanish colonial notation of dineros and granos. The overall layout is characteristic of early Mexican Republican silver coinage.

Additional information

Mexico's first post-independence coinage presented an immediate technical problem: the new republic had inherited Spanish colonial minting infrastructure but needed to establish a distinctly sovereign identity almost overnight. The Profile Eagle type of 1824 was among the earliest issues produced under the new republican authority, sharing that inaugural year with the 8 Reales that would become far better known to collectors.

The half real denomination saw limited demand in daily commerce and was struck in comparatively small quantities. Survivors in any grade above Fine are genuinely scarce.
