| Reverse description | Central field displays a crowned shield of the Portuguese royal arms, rendered in the crude hammered style typical of mid-15th-century copper coinage. The shield, bearing the quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross), is enclosed within a partial circular legend in uncial Latin characters. The surrounding legend reads ALFQ REX PORTU in varying forms, identifying the issuer as King Afonso (Alphonse) of Portugal. The flan is irregular with weak striking in areas, consistent with hand-hammered production of this period. |
