Obverse description Crowned monogram of Philip IV rendered as an interlaced 'P' and 'H' (or 'F') in Gothic script, centrally positioned in the field of this irregularly shaped cob planchet. The denomination numeral '2' (for 1/2 Real) is visible to the right of the monogram. A partially visible legend in Latin runs along the outer border, with a beaded or granulated inner border encircling the central device. The overall strike is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage produced at Potosí, with areas of weakness typical of the hand-struck technique.
