| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the crowned royal cypher of Philip III, formed by an interlaced Gothic monogram of the letters P and S surmounted by a crown, characteristic of the cob coinage style. The mint mark of Potosí (P) appears to the left of the monogram, with the assayer's initial to the right, both positioned in the inner field. A partial circular legend reading PHILIPPVS III D G runs along the periphery, though typically only fragments are visible on struck cob coinage due to the irregular flan. The design is rendered in the crude but distinctive hammered style of the Potosí mint, with the monogram occupying the majority of the available die area. |
