Reverse description Central field features a turreted Gothic castle with three towers, the tallest rising from the center, displayed within a quadrilobe or quatrefoil frame formed by four interlocking circles, all enclosed within a beaded inner border. The letter 'S' appears below the castle within the quatrefoil, serving as the mintmark for the Seville mint. The surrounding peripheral legend in Gothic Latin characters is separated from the inner device by the beaded circle and runs to the irregular hammered rim. The overall design reflects the established Castilian heraldic tradition of the mid-14th century.
