| Obverse description | Crowned quartered shield of the Spanish royal arms occupies the central field, displaying the castles of Castile and lions of León in the four quarters with the Bourbon fleur-de-lis escutcheon at center. The mint mark 'M' (Madrid) appears to the left of the shield and the assayer's initials 'JB' to the right. The circular legend surrounding the shield reads FERDINANDUS VI D G, identifying the monarch as Ferdinand VI by the Grace of God. The coin is struck on a milled flan with a finely toothed border visible around the entire circumference. The design is executed in the restrained neoclassical style characteristic of Spanish milled coinage of the mid-eighteenth century. |
