Obverse description Royal monogram of Philip IV (Felipe IV) in the field, formed by an interlaced P and crowned with a royal crown. The date 1627 appears below the monogram. The design is crudely struck in typical macuquina (cob) fashion, resulting in an irregular flan with soft, off-center details characteristic of hammered Spanish colonial and metropolitan coinage of the period.
