Obverse description Central crowned royal monogram of Philip III (PHILIPPVS) in Gothic script, with the assayer's initial and the Mexico City mint mark 'M' or 'Mo' positioned to the left of the monogram. A circular legend reading PHILIPPVS DEI GRATIA surrounds the central device, all enclosed within a beaded inner border. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and weak strike typical of hammered New World colonial coinage of this period.
