Obverse description Central device features a radiant sun with a human face (sol de mayo), rendered with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a prominently featured facial effigy. Four small five-pointed stars are positioned symmetrically around the sun in the field. The circular legend reads REPUB SUD PERUANA around the upper portion, with the mint mark AREQ and date 1837 along the lower portion, all separated by dots. The coin is bordered by an inner beaded circle and an outer beaded rim.
