Obverse description Obverse bearing a multi-line Persian inscriptional legend in flowing Nasta'liq script, occupying the entire field of the irregularly shaped flan. The raised Arabic characters, hand-engraved and struck by hammer, display the royal titulature of Nasir al-Din Shah of the Qajar dynasty. The script fills the coin face with characteristic calligraphic flourishes, with no border or decorative frame, typical of early Qajar hammered coinage.
