The shield is of a plain square form typical of Elizabethan hammered gold coinage. The entire device is enclosed within an inner beaded circle, with the Latin motto SCVTVM FIDEI PROTEGET EAM (The shield of faith shall protect her) running around the outer legend, separated by pellet stops. |
