Syria's gold coinage of 1950 was issued just four years after French Mandate rule ended, as the newly independent republic worked to establish credible financial institutions. The Banque de Syrie et du Liban still handled currency at this point — the fully autonomous Syrian central bank wouldn't exist until 1956.

Struck in Paris, these pieces saw minimal circulation and survive predominantly in mint state.
